Tiffany’s has its Tiffany-blue box, whereas Cartier has that distinctive deep red box with gold trimmings, identifiable from across the room. Well known for its jewellery and wrist watches, Cartier pieces are the epitome of elegance and stature in great proportions. I love brandishing my wrist with a classic style I know will transcend time and fashion trends. With a beautiful Cartier on my wrist, it is a great conversation starter at mixers or dinners.
With the introduction of the first practical wristwatch, the Santos, in 1904, Cartier has also garnered an elite following for the Tank–one of the most highly coveted watches of all time. There is little wonder why the Tank is copied; the beautiful lines and proportions mimic the Renault tanks and features both a square and a rectangle. With its brancard straps–vertical sidebars, the tank watch is in a league of its own with a bold Roman numeral dial, blued sword-shaped steel hands, sapphire crown and a gorgeous chapter ring. These features are undeniably Cartier, and warrant ooh-and-aahs in any occasion.
No wonder it has graced the wrists of notable stylish royalty Princess Diana and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent too.
